H+K Architects designed this prototype to be the new standard for elementary school buildings in the Washoe County School District. Born in Reno and raised in Sparks, Raw worked for the district for 37 years, including 23 as principal of Dilworth Middle School.Known for delivering teacher paychecks by roller-skating through school hallways, Raw retired in 1989. He served as a U.S. Navy aviator during World War II and also spent years with the Reno Junior Ski Program at Sky Tavern.Raw died in 2011 at age 85. Two other names were considered Tuesday as finalists: Sessions S. “Buck” Wheeler and Rio Wrangler. Wheeler, a published author and Reno High School teacher from 1936 to 1966, chaired the Reno High science department and also served as the first executive director of the Nevada Fish and Game Commission, now the Nevada Department of Wildlife.Starting in 2023, students in southeast Reno will attend JWood Raw Elementary School.

Punmu school principal Sarah Mortimer said the anniversary was designed to bring past and present teachers together to connect the timeline of history.Now, the school is spread out over two campuses — one in Punmu and one in Kunawarritji — and has grown significantly in size.

This kind of raw bigotry by an education organization against a religious minority tells us something unnerving about the state of our schools right now.The American answer – the only hopeful answer for our long-term social health – is to get back to reminding ourselves just how and why this country was founded. That means reviving civics at the heart of our school curricula, long before our children land on college campuses or in the workplace.If we don’t expose young people to the great debates and documents upon which our nation was established, how can we expect them to be thoughtful citizens of a republic when they mature? Imagine students in middle school reading George Washington’s letter to the colonial synagogue of Newport, Rhode Island.At the Jack Miller Center’s November National Summit on Civic Education, the urgent significance of this kind of student learning was the only agenda item. Various educational leaders spoke, and real, concrete discussions took place on practical curricular progress. As the Head of School of a classical middle and high school, I see this kind of national dialogue as intrinsic to our founding principles.

We use words like ‘many’ ‘some’ and ‘most’ in lessons to show the diversity of the worldviews we teach.The Surrey Agreed Syllabus is followed with the addition of the use of the Understanding Christianity resource, which is used to provide deeper knowledge and progression of the Christianity units of study. On the whole, class teachers deliver these lessons, with the exception of the AHT’s, where Mr Smith teaches RAW lessons across the school.Regular conversations with RAW planners from each year group as well as Mr Smith, ensure that progression and high standards are consistent across the school.
